Rosie was appointed as Minister of State at Communities and Local Government on 8 June 2009, a role she will undertake jointly with her responsibilities at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. Rosie is also Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber, a position she has held since January 2008.
Rosie was previously a Minister at the Department for Work and Pensions (October 2008-June 2009), the Department of Transport (June 2007- October 2008) and at the Department of Health (2003-2007). Rosie has also served as Parliamentary Secretary at the Lord Chancellor's Department from 2001 to June 2003.
Rosie was elected as MP for Doncaster Central in 1997. Before becoming a member of Parliament, Rosie was John Prescott's Head of Office (1994-1997) and Managing Director of Connect Public Affairs (1990-1994). She has also worked as a parliamentary officer for Southwark Council and the Royal College of Nursing. Rosie is a member of UNITE and in her spare time enjoys sailing and reading.
